Not worth the hype

This book reminded me a lot of the movie Inception, where people travel through their dreams. Charlie Crabtree was the ring leader of this group of four kids who kept dream diaries to try and incubate into each other's dreams. Years ago there was a murder and now a murder happens that is creepily similar to the murder that occurred 25 years ago. The Shadows had a lot of potential but ended up falling flat for me. The first half of the book was enjoyable and the characters were well described and it definitely kept me guessing. While I was surprised at things that happened in the book, it wasn't really a good surprise. I really disliked the ending and thought there were a bunch of disjointed conclusions and loose ends. In books, this is my biggest pet peeve. I need the ending to be summed up well! Many people loved this book and I don't quite see what the hype was.
