This book took me a while to get into as the first part of the book really seemed to jump around a lot. It was hard to catch on to what was going on and why I should care about it. Around page 40, the book begins to pick up and definitely grabs my attention after one of the character returns back to his childhood home. The story is revealed about what has happened in the past and why history seems to be repeating itself. The author did a good job from that point creating intrigue and giving the characters depth. The imagery of the Shadows was truly eerie and I was immediately drawn into the past and liked the way that the story shifted back and forth from present and past. I definitely will recommend this to others and will go back and read the author's first book. Thanks for the ARC, Bookish First.
