I was blown away by this book from the moment I set eyes on the first look I received from http://www.bookishfirst.com. With that being said I had no idea how much of a fun, and interesting read this was truly going to be! What made it better is being able to complete a buddy read with my wonderful wife Brandy. It is amazing to be able to discuss after the read is done, and see different perspectives or things that you may have missed.

The book centers around few characters the main being Paul Adams. He is haunted by his past, and a horrendous murder that happened 25 years ago. As his mother’s heath is deteriorating he must face his demons, stop running, and return to his hometown of Gritten. Little does he know not far away in Featherbank another murder has happened seemingly identical to the murder 25 years ago. As detective Amanda Beck sets out for Gritten to try and gain some answers many strange things begin happening to Paul, and in Gritten in general!

The Shadows by Alex North was absolutely amazing! I honestly do not want to divulge too much information, because it is so good! I had been hearing very many bad reviews and complaints about the book which made me a bit dismayed. However, I was not disappointed!

For starters, if you think the audiobook version is for you, I think most bad reviews I had seen was those who listened to the audiobook. This book needs to be read. It is a very non-linear timeline, and in my opinion that can get jumbled in an audiobook taking away from the experience. I say this because it has happened to myself.

Secondly, if you have a hard time with non-linear timeline stories you may want to prepare yourself. Do not avoid the book, because it is so good, but take your time while reading. Personally this isn’t an issue for me, but I saw many complaints.

Literally, I didn’t find any flaw in this novel! I only had one unanswered question at the end that an assumption could be made, but I which Alex would have answered. However, I will not say what that question I had was to avoid spoilers.

Overall, I give The Shadows by Alex North 5 stars out of 5 stars! Although I completed this novel very quickly, and before my wife. I felt the need to digest it in order to write my review properly. Alex writes with ease, fleshes our characters, lets tidbits of information trickle down your throat throughout, and I had an idea of the end but was still shocked and thrown for a loop! Just fantastic horror/suspense/mystery read!
