Didn’t draw me in

I was expecting creepy story and I definitely got that, but this story didn’t draw me in as much as I’d hoped. When Paul was a teenager, he was drawn into a weird world of creepy friends and lucid dreaming. Some stuff goes down and he leaves. Doesn’t return until his mother is dying 25 years later.
I felt like the pacing of this book was a bit slow, and it really didn’t hold my interest for a lot of it. It could be my aversion to mystery stories- a lot of the time I’m just not caring about them solving the mystery, finding clues, etc. I don’t know what it was but this wasn’t as good as Whisper Man was for me. It definitely creeped me out at the beginning then just fell a bit flat.
