Alex North is quickly becoming an official king of creepy, and in my opinion The Shadows is an encore performance that exceeds his previous book, The Whisper Man. Paul was a suspect in a horrific murder that was done by several previous friends twenty-five years ago. He left town with no intent of coming back, but the rapid decline in health of his mother brings him back. Enter the mystery and creepiness factor as well as a lot of reasons why he shouldn't have come home...
This book had some of the same elements of his previous book, but it lacked that epic ending that I had come to expect after reading The Whisper Man. I wish that there was more - I wanted to love this book, but it fell just a little bit short for me. Overall, a good read and I will be reading more by this author in the future, but this one left me feeling a bit EH at the end. Not my worst read book of the year but again not the best either.
