I have never read Alex North before but just after a few chapters of The Shadows, I will definitely read The Whisper Man and any future books.
The Shadows is about a murder that has occurred in the present but is also exactly like a murder that occurred 25 years ago. The story is told in both timelines from the perspective of Paul Adams who was friends with the person who was murdered in the past and he just happens to be back in town visiting his mother in hospice when the current murder occurs.
I really enjoyed the writing style and was immediately drawn in to the story. The author was very descriptive which helped to picture the scene. I feel like even though this is not a completely original storyline, the writing style and characters set it apart from other novels about “occult” type murders.
