Alex North has done it again. I can't say how excited I was for The Shadows, and it did NOT disappoint. The second book for North after The Whisper Man, The Shadows talks about a horrible crime committed and 25 years later, when a copycat does it again. There are so many spooky elements to this story and it completely drew me into the dark atmosphere.
Thoughts: I loved how this story unfolded! The elements came together to create a book that felt dark and dingy in the best way. The story of Charlie Crabtree was spooky all on its own, but adding in the element of lucid dreaming took it to a whole new level. This story had some amazing moments where it truly surprised me, and I definitely did not see the ending coming. I thought Paul was a likable main character and enjoyed hearing about the past and the present. I would love to see more stories that involve Detective Amanda Beck as well, because she was a great character.
As with The Whisper Man, North writes a story made up of interesting narratives. He does a great job with making the book just scary enough that you can keep reading, which you will want to do because the story is so intriguing. I LOVED this book and can completely say I will buy any book Alex North writes. 5 stars!
