Review:
I was lucky to get an early copy of The Shadows, the highly anticipated upcoming July thriller, thanks Bookishfirst and Celadon Books! I used my points to claim a copy the second it became available and it was worth it!
I read The Whisper Man last year and it was an okay read for me. It did not blow me away and I struggled to stay interested in it. However, this sophomore novel from Alex North,The Shadows, has become my favorite 2020 novel so far! (it was The Grace Year since January).
I found North's writing style, the two points of view (Paul Adams, and Detective Amanda Beck) and the plot easy to connect with. The characters were crafted well and likable. The atmosphere that North created was well-done and it felt like I was stepping into another world.
I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this novel but the best one was the twists/reveals that North came up with. I did not see the main reveal or the other small ones coming at all. I love it when a book can shock me (and make me want to fling the book across the room) and The Shadows did just that.
I was able to fly through this well-written thriller and loved the feeling of suspenseful North was able to create. He is quickly becoming one of my must-read thriller authors.
I recommend reading this thriller if you have an early copy or getting your hands on it when it releases in July!
