This sounds great. It’s atmospheric—you can feel the tension creeping over you as you read. And the characters are so well done. I want to know more about Amanda and her father’s relationship. The description of life without him hit me hard. It encompasses anxiety and grief really well. It also describes the feeling of adulthood, especially an adulthood without your parent around. It’s a sort of lost feeling, which may be why she’s still following her dad’s orders on how to grieve for him (or rather, how not to grieve). So, so good. I would highlight that part of the book if I owned a copy.

Both narrators are dealing with their past. Amanda is still processing and grieving the death of her father (relatable) while Paul is forced to return home to prepare for his mother’s death. But both are disrupted by a copycat murder. What happens next?!

I don’t know what to make of Paul but I sure do like his mother. I hope there’s more about her in the story. Why did Paul’s relationship with his mother become so strained? She stood up for him and she was FIERCE. I want to know more about that scene.
