There is nothing like a premise of the lurking unknown that can draw a reader in. That's one of the things I enjoyed most about the synopsis of North's new novel. Just the first few pages left me on the ledge of anticipation waiting to dive off into more of his macabre writing.
Though these are only the beginning stages of character building, North has a way of unveiling his characters slowly to the reader. I'm patiently waiting to learn more about the histories of Paul and Detective Beck. What happened to Paul 25 years ago? What case haunts the nightmares of Detective Back? Who, or possibly WHAT, is Charlie Crabtree now?! My mind can only muster so many scenarios as I eagerly anticipate the release of this novel.
