The cover is an eye catcher. The obvious hand at first glance then the image of four figures walking and casting, that's right, shadows in the outline of a hand.

The opening to set the initial murder scene and introduce the boy, then a quick jump with some background on the detective who will be handling the contemporary murder case, then back to the boy, now a man, with his dying mother. And the hands. At the murder scene(s?) and in his mother's visions. What does it all mean and how does the new case involve the man who was a child when the older case occurred? That last question, as well as wanting to know the details of the case and the investigation, is why I want to read the book. The writing is compelling and moves the story along briskly while making me want to learn more.
