With compelling narration and fascinating characters, "The Shadows" is gripping. At first, it reminded me of Barry Lyga's "I Hunt Killers" series, but it's somehow even darker - the grown-up version, without the teen angst to lighten the mood. It might not be the kind of book you want to read before bed, but it sure is a great pick for curling up with during a thunderstorm. I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually became a movie or TV series!
