The Shadows begins how any great mystery should start: with a sense of creepiness that makes you wonder, “What is going to happen?” Just by reading the prologue, I want to know more. How was Paul involved? What happened in that playground? What does this mean for the present? I love that the chapters switch between characters so readers get both sides of the story. Being able to follow the Detective to see how the case will be worked out is always exciting to me and being able to follow a character (specifically Paul in this book) who is involved in some way to get the other side of the story is so interesting. Also, this cover is super creepy, yet simple. When I look at it I think, “Why are these characters lurking in the shadows of this skeletal hand?”
