This is most definitely a middle school book. That is not just because the protagonist is young and the language is rank but typical of the age group, the reading level is common to the age group. Some kids are going to summer camp with their scout troop. It seems like this is a church scout group. This group is planning to win an award for following the rules better than the other troops.
