Ineffectual attempt at a young male protagonist

I'm not going to lie, from the synopsis of this book, I knew it wasn't going to be my cup of tea. The opening scene is a super macho-charged video game scene and it doesn't get any better from there. The author's efforts to emulate a young teenage boy's voice is really not working. It's too simplistic and immature and plays upon too many young male stereotypes. I'm not a fan.
