I gave the quick read a 3 because I feel I need to read a bit more to be able to give an accurate scoring. It seems to go rather quickly from love and joy to carnage and loneliness. I didn't quite understand why the kingdom had no means of protection from outside forces. Also why wasn't there a plan in place to protect Vivien in case of war instead of sending her out on her own.
I found the book easy to read and was able to keep up with the twists and turns. I liked the way Vivien was raised and taught to be self sufficient. Her father's teaching her about his ways and religion was a plus also.
I got a bit confused with the beginning talking about the men on the horses finding her sleeping and the one making plans to marry her while she prayed. Then a man shows up on foot and I think she's got help, but as I read on it went in different direction and that scene wasn't mentioned again within the first reading text. Now I get to the end of the reading sample and she's faced with other men surrounding her and she's helpless again. Maybe the book itself has the follow through I need.
