I loved this YA fantasy novel! It had a fantastic first sentence, which I'm always thrilled to read in a novel - it bodes well for the rest of the book. And indeed, the second sentence was also fantastic and the book just exploded from there. The lead character, Brother Gemma, a young woman in an order of warrior monk-knights, is terrific - smart, capable and a fantastic character (with a smart mouth, which I loved).
This is an adventure tale with humor (which is important to me in a book) and a great tone and voice. Gemma is a Princess and two of her sisters are Queens, who are fighting for control of their lands. One is the good sister and one the evil sister. Gemma is fighting alongside the good sister, trying to help her prevail.
