Wow. Ok so I had such high hopes for this book. As an avid fantasy reader and lover of all the dystopian stories, I was beyond excited to read this on. HOWEVER, I was hopelessly disappointed within the first chapter. First, the whole monk warrior thing was super weird and I was not about it. But, if it was just that, I would have kept reading. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The main character in the first chapter cursed like a sailor. That pulled me out of the story. Furthermore, the fighting that took place was far too gruesome and gross for me to sit through. Using words like “entrails” and descriptions of splitting people open had me shutting the book so fast. I hate to write a review of something I couldn’t get into and maybe it gets better. But, for people out there who start this, just know that it has a lot of language and a lot of gory details in it.
