The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken, the first book in The Scarred Earth Saga was a revelation. I'd never experienced fantasy and humor like that before. It was both serious in content, but also irreverent in execution. The Princess Knight continues in that vein, but instead of focusing on Queen Keeley, it's now former Brother and War Monk Gemma who the story centers around.
Watching Gemma deal with detractors and her family is so entertaining. I especially love the sister dynamic and how when things get serious, they both step forward to do whatever needs to be done, forgetting that they're now royals.
I can't wait to read the rest of this book!
