Honestly, at first glance this doesn’t seem like the type of book I’d love. Maybe I’d read and enjoy but not reread or buy, and yet with the first sentence of the book, G.A. Aiken absolutely hooked me. I loved Gemma! I loved her absolute take no shit attitude, the way she lets the other war-monks attitudes roll off her back, and just her absolute tough as nails personality. I loved Quinn and his siblings, and the image of Caid just flicking things with his tail while not realizing had me laughing immediately. The only thing I didn’t like was how Keeley interacted with Gemma, but even that I understood as the chapter went on. I can’t wait to read the rest of this and meet Beatrix, even with how evil she supposedly is.
Update: I didn’t realize this was a sequel to another book by Aiken, and now I’m absolutely thrilled. I get to enjoy this one, which had me absolutely loving it despite not having read the first book, and go back and enjoy that book?!
