I was worried at first I wasn't going to like this book as I don't read heavy fantasy, but it grabbed my attention pretty quickly. I actually quite enjoyed the blood and gore of the fight scenes. It wasn't anything crazy and the author did an amazing job at making a fast pace scene go quickly, but still let you read what's happening.
I love Gemma's no BS attitude and just the way she presents herself. She doesn't take anything she doesn't want to from anybody. I also really enjoyed her family dynamic - it's a bit tricky keeping everyone straight as there's so many relatives, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.
This isn't something I would normally read, but I'm super interesting in it now after reading the first impression!
