I like that this book starts 2 years prior to the main story. It is a good introduction.
The author is really good at placing light comedy in the dialogue during intense scenes. I really enjoyed the character interactions.
The first few chapters have left me with many questions! Why did Gemma stop wearing her Monk robes and mail? What has happened to Beatrix in the last 2 years?
The female characters are all portrayed as strong and independent. They are warriors. They fight alongside their male counterparts in the wars.
