Creepy! Sooo creepy!

I don't read as much horror as I used to but sweet mercy, I'm glad this novella landed on my shelf. There's enough foreshadowing and hints of sinister things to come in this story that I could not put it down until I reached the conclusion. Which didn't take too long at 205 pages.

Jasper DeWitt's The Patient is about a young psychiatrist recently hired at a state mental hospital where he quickly learns about a patient who defies all reason. Everyone who attempts to treat or get close to him either goes mad themselves or commits suicide. He's profoundly disturbed and no one can diagnose him. The doctor's story is told through online medical forum posts and I liked how this format framed the story and heightened the suspense.

I love when psychological thrillers have you wondering if there's a supernatural element to the story. Everything else seems normal, but how else do you explain this thing here? And what about this over here?? Oof, such spooky satisfaction. I loved this quick read so much and I really hope someone turns it into a movie!
