Ok, so I read this about two years ago. It's dark. It gets darker the more you read it. It's a good fast-paced book that does keep you turning the pages. Our protagonist goes to work in a mental hospital - think Arkham Asylum. There's a patient that was admitted at the age of 6 and is now 40 years old. The protagonist wants to help the patient, which is a noble thing to do, but he is consistently warned about this patient by the staff. As we read through the story, we learn the patient is a special type of evil. He has a way of learning about people and their weaknesses and exploits them to hurt them and manipulate them. He likes to come across as somewhat childlike and innocent to gain trust and openness with whoever he is in contact with. The story does take a dark turn when the protagonist goes to the patient's childhood home, before he was admitted to the mental health hospital, in hopes of learning more about the cause of his admittance. It tends to get a little supernatural moving forward from this point and is an interesting way of looking at "a wolf in sheep's clothing". It doesn't end the way I was expecting it to as there is no real closure but only hypothesis as to the origins of the patient's ...issues.
