This book tells the tale of Parker a talented psychiatrist who ends up working for a decrepit asylum after following his dream of helping those less fortunate, although he has an impressive pedigree he decides to work here due to a personal incident when he was young. He comes to find out that there is a patient with whom no definitive diagnosis has been found even after 34 years, in fact the staff have mostly given up and very few will treat the patient. He makes it his mission to finally diagnose the patient out of the simple desire to help and make a difference.

This story is an intriguing thriller where things are not quite as they appear. It was written as several forum posts by Parker, relaying his time in the asylum and the details of this ill-fate patient. I was kept guessing right from the start as to what was happening with "the patient", the horrific details of his actions and the effect that they had on those around him were expertly penned.

The ending twist was so unexpected, I did not have any clue as to what the outcome would be and I found myself quite surprised, which I feel is hard to come by in thrillers now. I was gripped by the blend of mystery and horror and I found it to be just the right amount of scary for me. This was a very quick read and I recommend it to those who are interested in asylum stories.
