I enjoyed this first look. I thought it was perhaps a tad bit slow to start - or not that it was slow exactly, but this first look got a lot of explanations out of the way. Sometimes that's nice right out of the gate, getting all of the necessary background out of the way so you can really get down to business. I think ultimately that set up probably works well in this novel in its entirety. I think the premise is interesting and creepy in the best possible way, and based on the first look it seems like it's the sort of novel that lets that eerie quality slip in right from the start.
