The Orphan Collector was amazing! The title alone is ominous and drew me in. It take place during the 1918 flu pandemic which was timely considering the Covid Pandemic in 2020. The book follows the story of two characters - Pia whose family is affected by the pandemic and one tough decision she makes changes the course of her and her brothers lives - and the character of Berniece a neighbor who's prejudices and beliefs destroys the lives of countless families though she convinces herself she is helping the children and promoting an American lifestyle. i loved following Pia through the years and was tearing through the pages to get to the end and the conclusion of the her story. all of the trials and tribulations she encounters and also hears about other orphans encoutering was harrowing to read and horrifying to think it could happen and did happend.
