This is one of my 2020 favorite books so far...

I won an ARC of this book through a BookishFirst.com raffle giveaway (thank you)! Another 5 star historical fiction read - this one so timely it was almost too eerie to read it. The characters were so vividly described and fleshed out that my heart ached for Pia Lange and then turned stone-cold when reading about Bernice Groves. Set during the 1918 influenza outbreak, we are immersed in the beautiful but heart-wrenching tale of determination of Pia's life during this horrific epidemic. It hit home, especially because of the pandemic we are going through today, and the way Germans were treated because my mother came from Germany to the United States during WWII. I'm so happy to be able to add another author to my list of favorite writers. I hope everyone gets a chance to read this superb novel.
