This book couldn't have come in a more appropriate time - the pandemic of Covid 19. Wiseman's research is impeccable; therefore her descriptions are graphic but magnificent. I found many different themes within the plot, but of course, the two most important are Pia Lange and Bernice Bernice Groves ( Nurse Wallis). The intertwining of their lives is so well developed and yet kept separate.pt separate.
The parallels between 1918 and 2020 are almost haunting - the denial by parts of the government of the severity of the illness as well as some of the symptoms, the lack of truthfulness with the citizens. After having read non-fiction about the pandemic of 1918, this was a.graphic description of the personal toll.
