Pandemic reading
I flew through this book, and I absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 and ‘19. This book follows two storylines: one with a slightly magical twist and a lot of goodness and hope and one with the darkest of human impulses indulged and rewarded. This was seriously one of the worst antagonists I've ever read. I admit I’m not sure that the magical element was necessary or added more than just drama to the story. I also wasn’t crazy about the resolution of part of the story, but i suppose things can’t always work out the way we want them to.
This book isn’t for the faint of heart, as there are a lot of dark details about orphanages and grisly details of how the flu actually took the lives of so many.
