Not since Nurse Hatchett in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, have I hated a fictional nurse as much as I hated and despised Nurse Wallis. Ms. Wallis gives all evil women a run for their money. She is one bad, evil, despicable character ever written.
This book is beautifully written and follows Pia Lange a poor child who must take care of her twin brothers after her mother dies from the flu.
Life and the Spanish Flu get in the way of letting Pia take care of her brothers.
While she is sick, her brothers mysteriously disappear.
SHe is forced into an orphange that is strict and uncaring. She must then take care of babies while also trying to find her brothers.
Following her path from orphanage to nanny and trying to find her brothers is a heart aching story.
And what stands in her way from reuniting with her brothers....an evil person named Nurse Wallis....

OVerall a great book, well written, well developed characters, and a haunting story will leave wanting revenge and closure.
