I really enjoyed this one. The story felt timely with the subject matter of a global pandemic and people trying to make it. This book follows Pia, a German girl living in Philadelphia with her mother and twin baby brothers. When her mother dies, she must take care of her brothers. When she has a hard time finding food and supplies, she must leave the apartment in search of food. At this time, she gets taken into an orphanage where she is stuck and can’t leave.
The book is about Pia’s trials and tribulations during this time. There is another character that I don’t want to say too much about since it will spoil the story. I really didn’t like her though.
