Wiseman did things to my heart with Lily's story in The Life She Was Given and I should have known she would do it again with Pia's story in The Orphan Collector! The timing of this story is amazing as it takes place during the 1918 Spanish flu with quarantine and masks being mentioned quite often. Pia is only 13 and what she has to go through, and the decisions that she has to make, would be hard for an adult. Bernice Groves is also an important part of the story as she makes decisions that will most likely anger you and, if you are like me, yelling in exasperation at this woman! The writing of this book is superbly done and I seriously did not want to put it down! I read the majority in one day because just as I was going to stop at the end of the chapter I couldn't and I HAD to keep going. I needed to know the end of Pia's story no matter what was going to happen!
