I was intrigued by the description of the book and immediately was drawn into the story when I started reading. I love Pia's character and am interested to see how her "shyness" is further explored in later chapters. It also is interesting seeing the parallels between this pandemic and the one we are currently facing. The story also shows the hard decisions immigrants had to face with leaving their countries and not knowing if their new destination would be any better. Reading Bernice's chapter I already feel that I don't like or trust her at all, so I'm interested to see if the book reinforces or challenges those feelings. Overall, this was an amazing sample, and I can't wait to read the whole book.
