Set in Philly at the start of the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918 this books feels incredibly timely given what's going on with COVID-19. The Story follows Pia, a young German Immigrant with a slightly magical gift (or possibly curse) and a grieving young widow, Berniece. The historical depictions are very interesting and I found Pia especially intriguing. Bernice's anti-German sentiments is also a timely reminder that prejudice must be put aside if we are to be able to help one another in times of need.
