I'm sure that when Ellen Marie Wiseman was writing this, she couldn't have imagined how present the history she was writing about would feel to reader reading this in the current moment, but wow. While it's challenging mentally to read about, I think this book can be an important read right now, with its perspectives on disease and resilience, as well as immigration and treatment of immigrants.
