Hauntingly similar to our current situation
Almost 102 years later this book's topic definitely hits home right now. The first couple of chapters of this book shine a light on immigration, misinformation, intolerance and just how far fear motivates the general masses when prodded by the media or their peers. You cannot help but feel a connection with both Pia, being solely responsible for her 4 month old twin brothers and Bernice, who lost her infant son to the Spanish Flu. As difficult as our current situation is I cannot fathom the hardships faced by the people during not only a war but also the Spanish Flu. This should prove to be a compelling and heartbreaking novel - hitting home with the world's current Coronavirus situation.
