Given the current situation of the world, this book about the Spanish Flu in 1918 is eerily relevant. The protagonist, Pia, not only has to navigate living in Philadelphia as a German immigrant during WWI, but also life in a bustling city as a person with extreme social anxiety. Untreated mental health struggles adds an additional layer to this character, and immediately makes the reader feel for her- long before the exposition is complete. The cover doesn't really give any clues as to the time period (which is obviously an extremely important aspect of the book), but does a good job in introducing Pia.
