This book is a very timely read. With most of the world under the grip of Covid19, the comparisons to the Spanish Flu are very real. The passages about immigrants being ostracized is happening right now in the US.
Pai sounds like a young protagonist to root for. To watch your mother die of this horrible disease is traumatizing but to have to care for twin infants is even harder. What happened to Finn and his brother? It would appear that Finn’s brother died of the flu but where is Finn? Did Bernice have something to do with his disappearance? She seems to be very anti-immigrant. Is she going to do something to Pia and her brothers?
