I really wanted to like this book. I liked the cover and thought, hey this one might work. Nope. Granted, it's historical fiction, but wow, you start off with a germaphobic pre-teen in 1918? The other part, which I found unbelievable was the hemorrhagic fever symptoms. Yes. The Spanish flu did cause the mucous membranes in the nasal passages to bleed, but the eyes?
I was waiting for the Orphan Collector part, and it's probably further into the book than what was provided.
