This first look begins with an Indian man leaving his home to move somewhere new after his brother has died. Through the first 10 pages I was t sure if what I was reading was actually happening or a hallucination. It is written in a way that is so convincing but also leans towards making you question your own thoughts. I love the psychological thrill to it. Additionally, towards the end of the first look a young man is talking about an elk that he killed and skinned and how he was looking at it. Then come to find out he says that the elk cannot be there. It’s impossible ….?! From the start this story leaves you wondering which reality we are living in. Are these characters good historians and stable people ? Can we trust them ? Second guessing the stability of the main character of a book is my favorite past time activity. I want to finish this! I’m hooked !
