I waited a few days after finishing the book to write this review and process what I read. It was twisty, realistic horror with a cultural element that was new to me and one I enjoyed learning about - Native American culture has stereotypes that are evoked often (and justly) within this novel. I did have to reread passages a few times because the novel would have an interesting part that was obviously connected to a past part that was easy to miss. Some of the word/sentence structure was to blame for missing those critical parts. I found myself a few times putting it down because I needed to process the graphic nature of the scene - akin to looking away during a scary part in a movie. I was really getting into the book and flow of the element/vengeful creature that is after the characters and then was left disappointed in the last 30 pages. When the pinnacle of the book was to hit and the action to really pick up, it turned to pages and pages about basketball. Altogether the end was sufficient but not one that left me satisfied.
