I picked up this book because I saw someone who has similar taste to me say they loved this book. I'm glad I read it because it was an amazing read. This book is about 4 Native American friends who kill a family of elk and then are hunted and haunted by the reincarnation of one of the elk for the rest of their lives. This writing style is unique and complex, making it difficult to read, but also creates great visualization. Along side the horror, it talks about the generational trauma that indigenous people have experienced. I loved how representation of Native American people was incorporated into this book. It is a slower book, but definitely worth reading. The slow pace makes the details more horrifying because you are stuck in the moment and reading the atrocities that are happening to the men and the animals. Stephen Graham Jones books never disappoint.
