Intriguing - Mix of Horror and Social Critique

I'm not sure where my first impression is on this yet. The writing seems like it will immediately draw me in. But, I'm not a horror readers, so I'm worried it will lose me. I was concerned about the cultural elements at first, but I am excited to learn it is an ownvoices book. If I weren't reading a thousand other things, I might give this one a chance. But, there are so many books and so little time...
