Goodreads describes this as "Paul Tremblay meets Tommy Orange’s There There" which is a hell yeah for me and I can at least get a sense of that from the first impression, although it did feel a bit plodding. The cover is certainly eye-catching but I do kind of wish they had used a more artistic version of the elk rather than the photo.
