Well. I'm not really sure what to say. The concept is intriguing, and the writing is engaging. But, what did I just read? Hallucinations of these Indians' past elk kills in the midst of one good scene and one mundane scene? Or ghosts of their dead elks haunting them? Either way, it's like stepping into the mind of someone experiencing a psychedelic trip. Weird and difficult to make sense of. Plus, the prologue ends in the middle of a sentence, and then jumps into the next chapter. So I was a little confused by it all, and I don't think I could stomach an entire book containing this level of graphic violence with animals.
