I listened to the audiobook of this one and I liked the narrator (even if the character who narrated most of the book was a horrible decision maker). This was a pretty good debut and while I expected a bit more of a thriller from the description the small town mystery was well written with good red herrings and some nice twists. After Lauren made some monumentally poor choices her life in California had fallen apart so she and her mother mother moved to small town Happy Valley where Lauren’s mom’s new boyfriend lived. Lauren is on her new soccer team and feels like things are finally starting to get her. When the team discovers she is talking to Robbie, they make sure she knows that both of the brother’s girlfriends died mysteriously and it is believed that the boys are guilty even though no charges were ever brought against the boys. Lauren is desperate for one more weekend to feel normal and goes with Robbie and his family to their lake house for a weekend. Everything changes when she finds evidence of Robbie’s girlfriend Victoria’s last moments and she is desperate to find out who it was. I can’t say Lauren is a natural investigator but I did like her gumption and persistence. I liked this story and will keep an eye out for more from this author.
