However the more I read of this book the more I realized it was falling into the stereotypical Gossip Girl type formula so many YA books copy. Less for the real teens and more for the 30+ year olds writing what they wanted to read as teens. It was just giving very generic and way too much melodrama that wasn't written in the best way. Something about YA thriller has just been harder and harder for me to connect to. It didn't really do anything different from the norm or have any surprising shocks and twists. I will say the cover is super cool and I love the design of it. Thriller is such a buzzy category in YA right now but these types of stories are hard to get right. Because so often they have teens navigating the world like adults feeling like adults but with the maturity of 16 year olds and this one was no exception to that feeling out of place not quite fitting it.
