So many books are supposedly the next “Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” or “One of Us is Lying,” but “The One That Got Away With Murder” truly is a book that I could see appealing to fans of the the others. It’s a really interesting plot, with unusual twists and an incredibly compelling protagonist. Lauren is a complicated person with a complex backstory, and learning about her life experiences as they are revealed over the course of the book helps the reader to create a connection to her that resonates a lot more than if the author had just presented Lauren’s whole story right at the start of the book. I thought that was a very good strategy. Meanwhile, the plot is tight and keeps the book moving quickly—it really is an incredible combination, especially for a debut novel! I am absolutely looking forward to reading anything else that Trish Lundy writes!
