This book (collection of stories) may be small in size, but the stories themselves are big in impact. It truly is a collection of some powerful writing, sometimes surprisingly so! In fact, some of these stories should be adapted into a movie or short series. Caution: these are not fairy-tale stories where everything in life is happy or perfect, and I appreciated the suspense that comes with the sometimes gritty aspect of real life. There are seedy characters and criminals, but also students worrying about test scores, people worrying about their parents' old age and trying to meet their parents' cultural expectations. Some characters are grandmothers who pay attention to disturbing dreams.
I am not a reader who naturally gravitated to books of short stories in the past, but this reading experience has changed my mind about what I think I may or may not enjoy.
